Official Rules — “Scan the Ghost” QR Hunt Contest

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED OR RESTRICTED BY LAW.

1) Eligibility

Open to natural persons who are legal residents of the United States, 18 years of age or older at time of entry, and who have a valid U.S.-based mobile phone number capable of receiving calls/texts and accessing the internet.

Exclusions: Sponsors listed in §5 and their immediate household/family members (spouse, parents, siblings, children) are not eligible to win prizes.

All other individuals, including employees, customers, and members of the public, are eligible.

2) Contest Period

Begins October 25, 2025 at 12:00 a.m. ET and ends October 31, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. ET (“Contest Period”).

3) How to Enter (Scavenger Hunt with Tiered Entries)

  • Participants must complete a sequential scavenger hunt through designated contest stops in Princeton, WV during the Contest Period.

  • Start by registering at the Princeton Public Library or online at https://scantheghost.com/register. Registration also issues a free Princeton Public Library card.

  • The scavenger hunt begins at the first designated stop and continues step-by-step.

  • At each stop:

    1. Locate the official poster featuring a ghost or monster.

    2. Scan its unique QR code.

    3. The QR directs to the contest site. Enter your name and U.S. mobile number to confirm that stop.

    4. The site will then provide the clue to your next stop.

  • Stops are revealed only through these sequential clues and are not published in advance.

  • Stops award entries as follows:

    • Basic Stop = 1 entry

    • Upgraded Vendor Stop = 5 entries (or more depending on vendor contribution)

    • Special Monster Stop = 15 entries

  • There is no maximum number of entries; participants may collect as many entries as available during the Contest Period by following the scavenger hunt.

  • All participation is digital; no paper forms are required.

4) Participating Locations — Stop Types

Contest stops will consist of three categories, all forming part of the scavenger hunt sequence:

  1. Basic Stops (1 entry each) — standard participating businesses or locations.

  2. Upgraded Vendor Stops (5 entries or higher) — select sponsor locations that have chosen to upgrade their stop. Certain upgraded vendor stops may be worth more entries depending on the vendor’s contribution level.

  3. Special Monster Stops (15 entries each) — unique themed scavenger stops featuring special monsters.

Stops will not be disclosed prior to or during the Contest. Participants will only learn the next stop through scavenger hunt clues. For transparency, a complete list of all participating stops will be published on the contest website (https://scantheghost.com) after the Contest Period concludes.

5) Sponsors & Marketing Rights

This Contest is made possible by participating stop locations and Sponsors.

Sponsor rules:

  • Each Sponsor is responsible for its own promotional costs.

  • Sponsors are permitted to contact participants for 30 days after the Contest end date without restriction (“unencumbered marketing period”).

  • Participation in the Contest requires consent to receive such marketing communications.

  • After 30 days, Sponsors must provide participants with a clear, accessible method to opt out of any further marketing.

6) Prizes (Total ARV Based on Sponsor Contributions)

  • Currently Planned: Six (6) gift cards totaling $1,000 value:

    • One (1) Grand Prize: $500 gift card (general prepaid or to a Sponsor, at Administrator’s discretion).

    • Five (5) Secondary Prizes: $100 gift card each.

  • Additional Prizes Possible: If more Sponsors participate or contribute funds, additional gift cards with higher limits may become available.

  • Smaller Awards Possible: All sponsor contributions are pooled toward the purchase of gift cards. If funds allow, additional smaller-value gift cards or awards may be added to increase the number of winners.

  • Prize Pool Notice: The total number and value of prizes will be updated on the contest website as sponsor contributions are finalized.

Prizes are not transferable, not exchangeable, and no cash alternatives are permitted except at Sponsors’ sole discretion.

7) Winner Selection, Notification & Verification

  • At the end of the Contest Period, the Administrator will conduct a random drawing from all eligible entries earned across all stop types. Each valid entry (Basic, Upgraded Vendor, or Special Monster) is a separate chance to win.

  • Drawing will occur on or about November 2, 2025.

  • Potential winners will be notified via the mobile number submitted at registration or entry. A response is required within 72 hours of first attempted notification.

  • Potential winners may be required to complete and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, Liability/Publicity Release, and IRS W-9 (if applicable) within a stated time.

  • If a potential winner is ineligible, fails to respond, or does not complete required documents in time, an alternate winner may be selected from remaining eligible entries.

8) Odds

Odds depend on the total number of eligible entries received.

9) Entry Limits; Anti-Fraud; Tech Notes

  • One entry record per scan. Duplicate scans at the same stop will not increase entries.

  • Multiple accounts or automated means prohibited.

  • Participants are responsible for their own devices, access, and carrier charges.

10) Publicity & Marketing Consent
